Getting started

What DoneAfter is, who it’s for, and how to begin.

DoneAfter is a secure digital-legacy planning platform. You organize your digital life, write messages and letters, invite trusted contacts, and set rules for what gets released to whom, when, and under what proof. It helps the right people get the right information at the right time — without dumping your private data by accident.

No. DoneAfter is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. It does not replace a will, trust, power of attorney, or estate attorney. It complements those tools by organizing your digital life, messages, and instructions. Always consult qualified professionals for legal matters.

Individuals and families who want messages, letters, and digital instructions ready for loved ones; business owners who need a handoff plan; and crypto holders who need careful recovery instructions. You can start free and grow into more features as your plan expands.

Create a free account, confirm your email, and walk through the setup wizard: profile, trusted contacts, check-in preferences, and your first message or emergency card. You can add letters, documents, and business or crypto plans whenever you’re ready — nothing has to be perfect on day one.

No. DoneAfter is designed so you can start with the essentials (contacts, a check-in cadence, one message or emergency card) and deepen the plan over time. Your plan completion score helps you see what’s still empty without forcing a single marathon session.

Account & billing

Plans, upgrades, Free Starter, and managing your subscription.

You can start on Free Starter with core features. Paid plans unlock more trusted contacts, messages, physical letters, vault capacity, and advanced release options. Current prices and included features are always on the Pricing page (pulled from our live plan catalog).

Free Starter includes a limited number of contacts, messages, documents, and passwords, plus an emergency card path — enough to begin safely. Physical letters are not included on Free; upgrade when you need print-and-mail letters or higher limits. Gifts After memorial gifts can still be purchased on Free.

Signed-in members manage plans on Billing. Upgrades and changes go through Stripe checkout or the customer portal when configured. If you cancel a paid plan, access typically continues through the paid period, then returns to Free Starter — as long as your usage fits Free limits.

Card payments are handled by Stripe. PayPal may also be available when enabled for your account. We don’t store full card numbers on DoneAfter servers — Stripe (or PayPal) processes the charge.

Yes. From Account → Security you can request a data export (packaged securely, with a time-limited download link) or request account deletion. Deletion includes a grace period so you can cancel if you change your mind. See our Data Deletion Policy for what is removed and what may be retained for legal or security reasons.

Trusted contacts

Invites, roles, permissions, and what contacts can see.

You invite people by email and assign each a role (executor, family, attorney, crypto recovery, letter recipient, and more) with specific permissions. They receive an invite, can accept or decline, and only ever see their assigned role — never your entire private plan.

Only what their role and permissions allow — for example, the ability to submit a trigger, receive certain messages, or access documents you assigned. They do not get a dump of your passwords, letters, or full vault unless you explicitly release those items under your rules.

Yes. After accepting, contacts can keep their own contact details current so messages and physical letters can reach them. You’re notified of important accept/decline events.

You can invite someone else, adjust roles, or follow up. Pending invites can be reminded. Declines are logged so you know to pick a backup.

Check-ins & safety

How check-ins work — and why a missed one never auto-dumps your data.

It’s a scheduled wellness check. You choose how often DoneAfter checks in. If you miss one, we send reminders, then may alert trusted contacts, and still require human verification before anything sensitive is released. We never release your vault automatically just because a check-in was missed.

You’ll get reminders first. If silence continues, we escalate carefully (for example, notifying emergency or trusted contacts). Release of private content still depends on your release rules and a verified trigger — not on a single missed tap.

When SMS is enabled for your account and Twilio is configured on the platform, you can prefer SMS for check-in prompts. Email remains available as a fallback.

No. Check-ins are periodic confirmations you control. Between check-ins, DoneAfter is not watching your location or device activity.

Messages & letters

Message Vault, Real Letters, triggers, and delivery.

Messages live in your Message Vault and are delivered digitally (email notice + secure link / dashboard) when rules allow. Physical letters are written now, printed, and mailed through DoneAfter’s reviewed mail queue when the date or verified event arrives.

Yes. Choose a date or event trigger. Non-death scheduled letters can proceed on that schedule when you configure them that way. After-death letters still require a verified trigger and review before mailing.

DoneAfter generates letter, envelope, and label PDFs, then submits eligible letters to our print-and-mail provider (or an internal queue). Delivery is best-effort. Carrier delays and address issues can affect timing. After-death mailings wait for verification.

No. Sensitive content is not emailed in the clear. Notices point to secure, expiring links or the trusted-contact portal so access stays controlled.

Yes, within plan limits. Attachments are stored privately and released under the same rules as the message itself.

Vault, passwords & security

Documents, assets, encryption, and what not to store.

By default, store instructions and locations — not raw passwords or seed phrases. We strongly recommend against uploading raw credentials or recovery seeds anywhere online. Use a dedicated password manager and hardware-wallet best practices; DoneAfter focuses on who gets recovery guidance, and when.

Sensitive fields are encrypted at rest, passwords use strong hashing, sessions are hardened, and admin access to private content is restricted and audit-logged. Optional two-factor authentication (2FA) adds another layer on your account.

Only you, until your release rules and a verified trigger say otherwise. Trusted contacts see only their role. Staff access for support or fulfillment is limited, justified, and logged.

A wallet-friendly card (and optional hard-card order) with a code and instructions so first responders or family know how to reach your trusted circle — without exposing your vault. Reveal pages are carefully limited.

Verification & release

How triggers work before anything sensitive is shared.

A trusted contact (or authorized party) submits a trigger request with evidence — for example a death certificate, attorney confirmation, or other accepted proof. Review can include waiting periods, multiple approvals, and staged release levels before sensitive items are shared.

Depending on your rules: death, incapacity, a confirmed event, a calendar date, a recipient reaching a certain age, or other conditions you configure. Not every item has to wait for the same event.

Yes. Advanced release rules can require one or more approvals (including attorney approval where you set that), waiting periods, admin review, secure-link-only delivery, download limits, and expiry.

Release is staged and permissioned. Missed check-ins escalate carefully; they do not dump your vault. After-death physical mail and sensitive packages still go through verification and review.

A trusted contact submits a death (or related) trigger with evidence. You may have set a waiting period and multi-person approvals. After review, DoneAfter issues staged access grants and secure links — messages, documents, and eligible letters move according to your rules, not as one uncontrolled dump.

Gifts, business, crypto & AI

Gifts After, Business Continuity, crypto instructions, and No Fake Me.

Memorial and milestone gifts you arm now — gift cards, charity donations, and similar — to be fulfilled on a date or after a verified life event. Available on every plan, including Free; you pay for the gift itself at checkout.

A plan module for owners: domains, hosting, servers, staff roles, vendors, payment processors, customer notices, and keep/sell/close succession instructions — released to the successor you name under your proof rules.

You document wallets, exchanges, multisig notes, and recovery contacts — focusing on instructions and roles, not raw seeds. Multi-approval release rules help prevent a single person from rushing recovery.

You declare whether your voice, face, or likeness may be recreated with AI. Families can use a public badge and policy materials, and you can name an AI Identity Guardian. DoneAfter does not build AI clones of you.

A guided way to reconnect with family groups over time — invite waves, templates, and do-not-contact respect — so outreach stays intentional rather than a one-shot blast. Available where your plan includes it.

Help & support

How to reach us and where policies live.

Use Contact or Support to open a ticket. We’ll respond by email. Please don’t send passwords, seed phrases, or other secrets in tickets.

Terms, Privacy, Security Policy, Acceptable Use, Mail Fulfillment, Executor Verification, and Data Deletion are linked in the site footer and under Legal.

No. Email and postal systems are operated by third parties. Spam filters, carrier delays, address errors, and other factors can affect delivery. We design for best-effort fulfillment with clear status tracking where available.

Signed-in members can enable TOTP 2FA and save recovery codes under Account → Security. We recommend turning it on, especially if you store sensitive instructions in your plan.

Use the public Account Recovery form. We’ll review requests carefully (to prevent takeover) and can unlock the account or reset 2FA after verification. Keep recovery codes somewhere safe so you may not need this path.

Not legal advice. DoneAfter organizes digital legacy and outreach. It does not replace a will, trust, POA, or attorney. Physical mail and email are best-effort.
